How do you know if it’s time to make a change in your business or if you simply need to stay consistent with what you are doing? How can you discern if that discontentment is justified or if it’s simply shiny object syndrome?
Many times when I’m chatting with friends or my coaching students, one question tends to come up over and over: ‘Is it time to elevate, pivot, or scale my business?’ Perhaps you see a friend find incredible success with a business change, or maybe you’re just bored with what you’re doing in your own business right now and you’re not sure why. There are several things to consider before making a decision about altering your business.
If you’re in the Getting Started stage of your business where you’re just getting your business off the ground, or you’re testing and putting out different offers, and you’re seeing what is going to really resonate with your people, then it’s probably not time to elevate, scale or even pivot.
But there are times when you actually do need to make a change in order to get the outcome you want, especially if you have an established business, clients, revenue, and profits.
Once you have a clear vision for your ultimate goal and your ideal life, it will be much easier for you to create your business based on those concrete goals and vision.
Most importantly, you want to spend time in prayer and spend time seeking God anytime you are making a change, pivot, or shift in elevation of your business.
5 Signs It’s Time to Elevate, Pivot, or Scale your Business:
1. You are maxed out on time in your business, but you aren’t hitting your income goals OR you are hitting your income goals but working too much.
This might be the case for you if you are a service provider who is providing monthly service to someone on a one-on-one basis. There will come a point where you can’t take on any more clients because you are out of time. You may be working more hours than you want to be, but still aren’t hitting your income goals. Or maybe you ARE hitting your income goals, but you’re working way too many hours. If you are just absolutely maxed out on time, then that is a sign that something needs to change.
2. You’re making the income that you want to be making, but you’re not loving your business.
Maybe you’re bored and discontent in your business because you’re doing something in your business that isn’t lighting you up or that isn’t fully aligned with where you want to be or where God has called you to serve. So, maybe you are reaching those income goals that you set for yourself, but it’s simply not fulfilling you.
3. You’re feeling burnt out on one on one services, and you want to find a way to offer your knowledge and your expertise to more people.
Perhaps you’re burnt out on doing the same tasks over and over again as a service provider and you find yourself daydreaming about what it might look like to do something different and offer your knowledge to different people in a different way.
4. You’ve had moderate success with your offers, but you feel God leading you to a more specific niche or a more specific offer.
Maybe you’re happy with your work and business, but you feel God drawing you to something different. Sometimes this is a big change, but often it can be a small change that your audience may barely notice that is just the next right step in your business journey.
5. You have a message or offers that are meant for a wider group of people.
Maybe you have a bigger vision for what your business could do, and it simply is not going to be able to be accomplished with your current business model. There are times when something needs to elevate in your business, or where it needs to go up a level. There are also times when we need to pivot and head in a slightly different direction. And then there are times that we need to scale- where we take what we’re doing, and expand it to a wider group.
This may be for you if you know that your message is meant for a bigger, wider audience, and if you feel called to really expand what you’re doing.
